In 2016, 42% of user clicks on malicious URLs came from mobile devices.

Mobile security presents one of the biggest risks IT organizations have faced in the past ten years. It’s a trend that is driving control out of the hands of IT and directly into the hands of far less security-competent people.

Use of smartphones, notebooks, tablets, and other employee-owned mobile devices for work purposes mean proprietary information can now be stored almost anywhere. This includes the employees’ personal cloud backup services, where it often gets uploaded automatically on a daily basis.

But mobile devices are just the start as we think about digital interconnectivity in the workplace. As technology continues to advance faster than most can keep up with, this only creates more security hazards to stay on top of.

We must all advocate for operating new technology safely and securely as employees continue to use their mobile devices for work, risking unexpected and unauthorized sharing of company information.
